GET INVOLVED

The United States incarcerates more of its citizens than any other nation, with currently over 1.8 million people in prison. Every year, nearly 450,000 Americans are released from correctional facilities, but two-thirds of them are rearrested within three years. The nation spends over $80 billion annually on incarcerating and reincarcerating people. Apart from the financial impact, this cycle of crime and incarceration leads to broken relationships, victimization, despair, and instability, affecting families and communities across the nation. It's clear that something isn't working.

Asked about specific types of prison ministry engagement, around a fifth say members minister in correctional facilities (23%), individual members minister to families of the incarcerated (22%) or a team ministers in correction facilities (20%). Fewer say their church has individual members ministering to people leaving correctional facilities (17%), a formal ministry to families of the incarcerated (12%) or a formal ministry to people leaving correctional facilities (10%). Half (50%) say their church is not involved in a prison ministry.

To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. Isaiah 42:7

Hundreds of prisoners have found redemption, hope, and peace in God's Word, transforming them into "prisoners of hope" (Zech. 9:12).
